Visitor FAQ
Official guidance for waterfront operations and amenities.
Activities
Is fishing allowed on the pier?
While the pier is a public space, it is primarily a maritime transport hub. Fishing should not obstruct ferry passengers or vessel loading. We recommend the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade for quiet recreation.
Can I fly a drone at the pier?
The pier and surrounding waterfront are busy maritime zones. Commercial filming with drones requires a permit from the Hong Kong Film Services Office (FSO). Please consult the 'Permits' section for details.
Is smoking permitted?
To ensure a fresh sea breeze for all visitors, smoking is prohibited at the pier and most parts of the TST Promenade. Designated areas with ashtrays are located further inland.
Amenities
Where is the nearest public restroom?
Public restrooms are conveniently located inside the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (adjacent) and the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier complex (2 mins north).
Is the pier wheelchair accessible?
Yes. Kowloon Public Pier features barrier-free ramps and flat paths to accommodate visitors with limited mobility. Accessible MTR exits (Tsim Sha Tsui Station, Exit L6) are nearby.
Maritime
Can I hire a boat here?
Yes. Private 'Walla-Walla' water taxis frequently utilize the landing steps. You can often signal for one or check with captains of docked sightseeing vessels.
What should I do during a Typhoon signal?
For your safety, the pier should be vacated during Typhoon Signal No. 8 or higher. Star Ferry services are typically suspended during these times.
